eClinicalWorks’ Customers Receive Highest Level of Patient-Centered Medical Homes Recognition

Comprehensive Electronic Health Records Solution Aids Practices in Becoming Nationally Distinguished for Care Model Based on 2011 Specifications

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that several customers have been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for achieving Level 3 Physician Practice Connections®-Patient-Centered Medical Home™ (PCMH) status, the highest designation available. PCMHs coordinate care in a primary care setting with the goal of strengthening the physician-patient relationship, leading to better care delivered, more involved patients and reduced avoidable costs over time.

According to the NCQA Web site, PCMH “is a health care setting that facilitates partnerships between individual patients, and their personal physicians, and when appropriate, the patient’s family.” A PCMH automates business and clinical processes, uses clinical decision support tools, and connects patients with members of the health care team. Recognition is based on evolving criteria and includes three levels of recognition. Several eClinicalWorks customers, including Dr. Salvatore Volpe and Ninth Street Internal Medicine Associates, were among the first primary care practices in the country to be recognized as Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Homes in 2008. Both practices have successfully renewed their high level recognition based on the new 2011 criteria.

“We were the first solo physician practice in New York State to receive Level 3 PCMH recognition, based on the 2008 criteria and are excited to have the distinction this time as well,” said Dr. Salvatore Volpe, the first solo practice in the United States to now receive PCMH 2011 Level 3 status. “We care for our patients in the context of their family and community, and have built strong alliances with care givers outside of the practice to support this. Being a PCMH also helped us meet the criteria for Stage I Meaningful Use.”

“The PCMH model and the team approach help us to use staff and resources effectively to meet the needs of our patients,” said Allan Crimm, M.D., managing partner of Ninth Street Internal Medicine in Philadelphia. “Being a PCMH has improved patient as well as staff satisfaction and we find that making best use of the technology and information available to us has helped to provide better care to our patients.”

eClinicalWorks emphasizes preventative care and supports the medical home model of healthcare through features including clinical decision support, order sets and registry reporting. The system also enables providers to capture demographics, manage incoming and outgoing referrals, e-prescribe, order and receive labs and diagnostic imaging studies, communicate directly with patients, compile a comprehensive electronic medical record that spans the continuum of healthcare services for every patient, and participate in local, regional and state-wide health information exchanges.

“PCMHs hold promise in improving care through increased communication and a focus on preventative care,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “With patient engagement tools and real-time clinical decision support, eClinicalWorks provides solutions that elevate the role of an EMR to actively helping providers give the best medical care possible. Our solutions help providers pursue various care delivery initiatives and we congratulate each of them on their achievements.”
