Donna Karan expands healthcare business, unveils UCLA yoga, meditation program

Better known for high-end fashion, designer Donna Karan is expanding her healthcare business with its first West Coast yoga and meditation hospital program at Ronald Reagan UCLA, reports Century City Patch. In 2008, DK announced an $850,000 donation for a similar year-long program at leading hospital Beth Israel Hospital in New York. Donna Karan's Urban Zen Foundation will train UCLA patients and staff a blended mix of Eastern and Western therapies, including yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, and Reiki. Thirty UCLA physicians, nurses, social workers, and other hospital workers participated in the first round of training, and more than 200 hospital employees have expressed interest in the next round.

"Through meditation, yoga and all the practices, it really puts the patient, the loved one, the doctor and the nurse at ease because, as we all know, being in a hospital is not exactly a place that you sign up to on vacation," Karan said. Article
