Dallas Medical Center Chooses Healthcare Management Systems

Community hospital chooses ASP delivery of EHR applications as cost-effective meaningful use solution

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Dallas Medical Center has selected Healthcare Management Systems Inc. (HMS) to provide the 150-bed community hospital in Dallas, Texas, with a full suite of integrated electronic health record (EHR) applications. HMS will remotely host and manage the applications for Dallas Medical Center via its wholly owned subsidiary HMS Direct, one of the largest providers of managed solutions in the industry.

Raji Kumar, chief executive officer of Dallas Medical Center, said the facility’s choice was based on knowing that HMS specializes in community hospitals and offered the best functionality and value for a comprehensive system delivered via ASP (application service provider).

“I used HMS previously in a different hospital environment and was especially impressed with the software’s dashboard reporting functionality; it was an excellent means of tracking the facility’s financial performance,” Kumar added. “Our physicians here at Dallas Medical are very excited about using HMS for computerized order entry. The data is going to be captured and accessible, but the process won’t be cumbersome.”

HMS Direct eliminates burdensome day-to-day IT operations for hospitals with services that include full-system monitoring, data back-ups and seamless software and hardware upgrades. Remote management of clinical and financial hospital applications is an alternative way of financing EHRs needed to qualify for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus funds.

“Community hospitals are turning increasingly to the remote hosting and management of EHR applications as a means of moving toward meaningful use without having to invest as much capital upfront as with a purchase contract,” said Tom Stephenson, president and chief executive officer of HMS. “With HMS Direct, we can get facilities like Dallas Medical Center up and running on our applications without straining their internal IT resources and help them to achieve their financial, patient-care and meaningful use objectives.”
