Expanded partnership reflects market shift toward cost-effective, biologic tissue repair treatments for enhanced patient outcomes
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- More than 40,000 U.S. health care providers will gain access to special pricing and terms for an advanced biologic graft for soft tissue repair through a contractual relationship between Cook Medical and Novation, the leading health care supply company for VHA Inc., University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and Provista, LLC. Under the agreement, effective April 1, 2010, Cook will supply Novation members with its full line of Biodesign® Advanced Tissue Repair products, intended to treat a wide range of soft tissue defects and related conditions.
This agreement marks the third installment of contracts between the two organizations featuring the Biodesign product family. In 2009, Cook became the sole provider of biologic grafts for the treatment of two common pelvic floor disorders, pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. This past January, Cook was awarded an agreement for the Biodesign Fistula Plug, a minimally invasive alternative to traditional fistula repair procedures. Now, with this expanded contract, Novation’s vast network of hospitals and health care providers will obtain access to the additional Biodesign applications designed to treat five types of hernias, including inguinal, umbilical, hiatal/paraesophageal, incisional and ventral hernias, as well as staple line reinforcement for use during bariatric surgery.
