Backed by a unique combination of cloud-based services, technology and industry expertise, these services will introduce scale and efficiency across Cogent HMG’s administrative teams.

“As Cogent HMG continues to grow its national health care footprint, it is increasingly important for us to focus on core competencies,” John J. Donahue, President and CEO of Cogent HMG. “athenahealth facilitates seamless practice management across disparate care settings, has increased the amount of revenue we collect and decreased the time it takes for a claim to be paid. We remain on track with our vision to leverage smart services and technology as a means to keep providers focused on patients and business performance goals despite health care reform demands and reimbursement changes.”

With athenaCollector, Cogent HMG has gained real-time insight into a broad range of business activities, including claim status, patient eligibility and payer monitoring. In addition, Cogent HMG has benefited from a proprietary rules database that not only monitors and practice management activity in real-time, but also flags mistakes and fixes them based on best practices and knowledge that is constantly advanced through input from all athenahealth customers. New areas of focus for athenaCollector services across the Cogent HMG network include:

“Our desire to innovate has always been a clear differentiator for Cogent HMG in hospital medicine and critical care and helps us to fulfill our commitment to help transform America’s health care system,” said Dr. Ron Greeno, Chief Medical Officer of Cogent HMG. “Our nation’s health system is strengthened by the automation of certain services, including those delivered by athenahealth, that return to us lost time and resources that can be applied to our areas of strength. Through this partnership, we are reimagining the primary role that technology can play to enhance provider-patient interactions for our hospital partners across the nation.”

In addition, Cogent HMG has invited Jonathan Bush, Chairman and CEO of athenahealth, to join the Cogent HMG Innovation (CHI) Committee. This Committee was created to help foster new ideas around health care innovation and is comprised of respected industry thought-leaders, academics, insurers, and executives from Cogent HMG.

“Cogent HMG is a national leader in inpatient care excellence. Beyond impressive growth and a track record of quality patient outcomes, they’re innovative and proactive about streamlining administrative processes,” said Mr. Bush. “Our expanded partnership with Cogent HMG will enable them to focus on care, quality and growth initiatives while we take the lead on improving practice performance. We’re committed to helping all our customers increase profitability and decrease the hassles associated with billing and practice management.”
