Children's of Alabama Relies on Amcom Software for Critical Communications

  • Emergency notification system rallies staff—sending alerts to smartphones, cell phones, and pagers
  • Web-based directory keeps track of who’s on call and serves as a messaging hub with nearly 2,000 hits each day

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Amcom Software, Inc. today announced that Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham has strengthened critical communications throughout its organization by using Amcom Software’s broad suite of healthcare solutions. For the 275-bed hospital, excellent communication is part of its mission of providing outstanding care and treatment for children.

Children’s has been using Amcom products for many years. Its operator console helps staff process external calls from patients’ concerned family and friends as well as internal calls from staff. One of the most popular solutions in the suite is Amcom’s Web directory. Used by hundreds of people throughout the organization, the system lets staff look up who is on call for a particular department and message that physician right from the directory. Children’s uses USA Mobility pagers alongside smartphones and cell phones for mobile communications. The emergency notification solution also plays a role in delivering excellent care to children because it sends code alerts to groups of caregivers simultaneously, speeding patient care when seconds count.

“Given our mission to help children, it’s imperative to keep communications running smoothly and accurately at all times,” said Lucy Fleming, Director of Telecommunications, Children’s of Alabama.

“Any time we are involved in supporting the care of children, there’s a great sense of satisfaction,” said Chris Heim, President, Amcom Software. “We are honored to continue to work with such a world-class organization as Children’s of Alabama.”
