Cedars-Sinai Partners with AirStrip Technologies to Deploy Leading Mobile Computing Solutions

AirStrip Technologies platform enables clinical decision support objectives

LOS ANGELES & SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and AirStrip TechnologiesTM announced a developmental collaboration to leverage mobile patient monitoring in a variety of clinical environments where immediate access to data is necessary. A key goal of the partnership will be to develop, deploy, and create innovative ways to get real-time device data available anytime and anywhere.

Cedars-Sinai already enjoys a successful deployment of the AirStrip OBTM application. The development partnership will see the unveiling of AirStrip’s new CARDIOLOGYTM and Enterprise PATIENT MONITORINGTM products for smartphones and tablet devices as native applications. Cedars-Sinai is well known for being on the cutting edge of progressive innovation in healthcare IT and the forward-thinking leadership team at Cedars understands the value of providing on-the-go access to critical patient data using compelling data visualization experiences that result in faster and more accurate diagnoses - and which optimize workflow.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) included a provision for the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), including an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program. This program authorizes the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to make incentive payments to eligible hospitals and physicians through 2015, and to levy penalties against those not achieving expected goals for "meaningful use" of EHR technology within the designated time frames.

Meaningful use will occur in three stages over a five-year period starting in CMS fiscal year 2011 which began October 1, 2010. Focus areas have been defined by CMS for each stage, and include data capture and sharing in Stage 1; advanced clinical processes in Stage 2; and culminates in Stage 3 with improved outcomes.

“Physician adoption is vital to a successful meaningful use campaign, and mobility is a prerequisite to timely data access by busy physicians,” said Cedars-Sinai CIO Darren Dworkin. “We will decentralize the distribution of critical patient data to provide the information at the direct point of care. AirStrip’s enterprise mobility platform is the unique vehicle to revolutionize and accelerate the adoption of using information in real time.”

AirStrip works with a variety of mobile devices. AirStrip solutions are cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are compliant with federal patient privacy regulations.

“AirStrip is focused on improving patient safety and improving clinical outcomes through the use of mobility by delivering meaningful, visual data to clinical decision-makers regardless of physical location,” said Cameron Powell, M.D. and president, AirStrip Technologies, Inc. “By allowing physicians to interact with EHR and critical bedside data anytime, anywhere from their mobile device, doctors are making more timely decisions and improving patient safety. We are delighted to work with Cedars-Sinai in this important endeavor.”
