Catholic Health Partners Selects Courion’s Access Assurance Suite to Streamline Identity and Access Governance Processes a

Courion’s solution enables Ohio’s largest health system to mitigate access risk by defining, assessing, enforcing and verifying access policies for its 45,000 users

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Courion Corporation, leaders in access governance, compliance, and provisioning, today announced that Catholic Health Partners (CHP) has selected Courion’s Access Assurance Suite™ solution to enhance its risk management strategy and enforce consistent security policies system-wide by managing roles and entitlements, automating user access policies, and demonstrating compliance with corporate, industry and federal regulations.

CHP, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health systems, offers healthcare services throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and contiguous states. CHP manages data access for 45,000 users across nine regions in more than 100 facilities, consisting of 34 hospitals, 14 long-term care facilities, affordable housing for the elderly, and wellness centers. CHP also operates physician practices and hospice and home healthcare agencies.

Courion’s solution will enable CHP’s Information Security Department to standardize and automate user access policies across its 45,000 user base – reducing the time and effort it takes to ensure the right employees have the right access to the right resources. Through this comprehensive access assurance strategy, CHP will be able to define roles and entitlements as well as user access policies, assess how user access affects risk, and enforce automated user provisioning processes to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information. Not only will this mitigate the risks associated with user access, but it will also deliver business value by enabling CHP to better manage the life cycle of user accounts, resulting in accelerated onboarding for new hires, timely provisioning for employees who change business roles, and immediate de-provisioning of employees who leave the organization.

In addition, Courion’s solution will allow CHP to verify on an ongoing basis that user access is in accordance with defined corporate access policies and industry regulations and remediate access when it is not, eliminating the risk of compliance failures due to access violations. Through its automated reporting capabilities, Courion’s Access Assurance Suite solution will also provide CHP with on-demand access to user data, thereby reducing audit prep time and enabling CHP to better analyze access data in order to derive the business intelligence needed to control enterprise risk.

CHP evaluated several identity and access management (IAM) providers and selected Courion based on its specialization in IAM, its strong track record in healthcare and the ability to integrate with strategic clinical applications such as Epic, which CHP is implementing.

“Given the strategic nature of this project and the fact that the identity and access management solution will impact our entire user base, we wanted to partner with an organization that has the experience and the focus to be successful,” said Keith Fricke, Information Security Officer, Catholic Health Partners. “Courion was the only vendor to demonstrate integration with Epic, so we expect the implementation to have a positive impact on our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) initiative as we go live across the organization.”

“With the rapid adoption of electronic medical records, patient information is now more accessible to more people over many different devices. Because of this, and growing privacy laws, it is more important than ever for healthcare organizations to implement a comprehensive access assurance strategy to protect sensitive patient and company data,” said Chris Sullivan, vice president of customer solutions for Courion. “Catholic Health Partners understands the operational, financial and reputational value of confidential data and is putting the right security practices in place to identify and mitigate risk across the entire organization.”

Courion’s unique approach to identity, access and compliance management ensures that only the right people have the right access to the right resources and are doing the right things. Access Assurance unifies Access Governance, Access Compliance and Access Provisioning in the most complex, heterogeneous environments. This comprehensive approach increases operational efficiency and transparency, strengthens security, and improves compliance, while delivering the industry’s fastest time to value and lowest total cost of ownership.
