Care in Your Community: Baptist Emergency Hospital Expands San Antonio Presence

Here’s something that hits close to home: Baptist Health System is opening four new Baptist Emergency Hospital facilities in the San Antonio area to bring compassionate care closer to families in the Alamo City area. Beginning in October, Baptist Emergency Hospital will open locations at: Highway 151 at Westover Hills Blvd., Loop 1604 at Hausman Rd., Highway 281 at Overlook Pkwy. and I-35 at Schertz Pkwy.
The newest hospital opens in northwest San Antonio on Monday, October 29, 2012, with a blessing of the hands for all members of the facility. Along with the first emergency hospital located at 281 and Thousand Oaks, this facility will now allow residents of the northwest side to access emergency medical care in a location close to home.
“The community welcomed us with open arms and has given us the honor of treating their families with the kind of care we want for our own,” said Adolfo Carrasco, CEO of Baptist Emergency Hospital. “We are excited to expand our compassionate care to the suburban areas where many people live in San Antonio.”
Baptist Emergency Hospital offers emergency medical and inpatient care that is “patient-centric” in its innovative approach. From the moment the patient enters the facility, the experienced medical staff, systems and technology are ready to meet the patients’ needs in a way that is convenient, accessible, efficient and compassionate. While this delivery of care is something new for the Alamo City, it is from Baptist Health System, an organization that San Antonians have relied on for established, proven care for more than 100 years.
“Baptist Health System has pioneered a new approach in San Antonio that has proven to be of great benefit to our residents in the Alamo City and surrounding areas,” said Graham Reeve, president and CEO, Baptist Health System. “Having these hospitals close by, with the addition of three more facilities by 2013, will mean emergency care is available when and where people need it most, so we are excited to be able to continue bringing this service to our neighbors around San Antonio.”
Baptist Emergency Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is staffed with physicians, nurses and other experienced clinical staff. The emergency rooms are equipped with on-site imaging services including X-ray, CT scan and ultrasound, as well as in-house laboratories. Because of this, these emergency hospitals can handle any medical emergency at any time of day or night. The care provided at Baptist Emergency Hospital sets a new standard for exceptional patient experience and is an in-network provider with all major insurance plans.
Each new Baptist Emergency Hospital facility will range in square footage from 20,000 to 40,000 square feet. All told, the five Baptist Emergency Hospital facilities will create a total of approximately 200 new jobs in the San Antonio area. Baptist has partnered with emergency medicine pioneer Emerus to manage the facilities, based on the company’s successful model in other areas throughout Texas, including Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth.
“We know that when our patients or one of their loved ones has an emergency, you don’t want a delay because of distance or traffic, two very real obstacles in a growing city,” added Carrasco. “We pride ourselves in getting people on their way to recovery as quickly as possible.”
