Daniel Zingale, Senior Vice President of The California Endowment and the founding director of the Department of Managed Health Care, released the following statement regarding Covered California’s announcement of health insurance plans that will be sold through its marketplace.

“Today’s announcement from Covered California fulfills the promise of affordable health care options for Californians. It also proves that the dire predictions of exorbitant prices turned out to be as false as the death panels.

“When it comes to negotiating it turns out there is power in numbers. The cost of insurance to Californians purchasing through the exchange will be as much as 29 percent less than the current average cost of small employer plans. Today’s announcement marks an important commitment to peace of mind for Californians worried about ever shrinking benefits and bankruptcies caused by health costs in California.

“This is good news as California continues to move full speed ahead in implementing Obamacare and making quality health insurance affordable for all.”
