The Micromedex integrated CareNotes solution provides BMHMC's clinicians with unlimited access to patient specific education handouts, including Pre-Care, Inpatient and Discharge Education, from every patient specific screen within the Soarian clinical architecture, based on patient clinical parameters.  The integration of patient education into the Soarian Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system provides flexible access to the right patient education resources at the right time, all within the clinician's workflow, improving the consistency, efficiency and relevancy of patient education.

"Consistent, clear communication with our patients is central to our ability to provide top-quality healthcare every day," said Donald Fleming, Vice President and CIO, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.  "CareNotes puts the information we need at the fingertips of each clinician who interacts with a patient and allows us to deliver that information efficiently and accurately."

The integrated CareNotes solution at BMHMC is a joint-technology offering using Health Care Systems, Inc. (HCS) Connect Service infrastructure and Micromedex evidence-based clinical decision support and patient education content.   HCS software is designed to provide the clinician with patient specific and knowledge based information that integrates into the clinician workflow.  Software developed by HCS is in use in more than 800 healthcare organizations, improving information access, and medication reconciliation, while enabling meaningful use via certified Electronic Health Records (EHR).

The CareNotes integrated solution provides hospitals with design flexibility and customized access to evidence-based patient education.  Hospitals have the ability to customize, print, store, archive and retrieve electronic copies of educational documents to support organizational objectives within the EMR workflow – saving time and providing clinical consistency. The solution supports Meaningful Use Objectives and provides clinically relevant, patient specific education.

"We are delighted to partner with the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center to demonstrate the power of the integrated CareNotes solution.  Most importantly, we are excited to help Brookhaven clinicians provide timely and clinically relevant healthcare education to their patients," said Thomas Hegelund, executive vice president at Thomson Reuters.  "We believe the flexibility of our solutions allow our customers to extend clinical intelligence and decision support in ever more useful and scalable ways – delivering true impact at the point of care."
