Boston Scientific, Medtronic slammed with renewed $600M award

Eight years ago, Johnson & Johnson division Cordis Corp. was awarded almost $600 million in damages in a cardiac-stent infringement case against Boston Scientific Corp. and Medtronic. The cases involved the patent on Cordis's original Palmaz balloon expandable stent. However, the damages were set aside in 2000 and against in 2005 after successful appeals to jury verdicts in the cases. Now, a judge in Delaware has reinstated the awards, putting Boston Scientific on the hook for $324 million plus interest and Medtronic for $271 million plus interest.
