Blue Shield of California to Deploy HealthPlan Services' Go-To-Exchange Platform

TAMPA, Fla., April 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthPlan Services(SM), (HPS), the nation's leading technology, sales, retention and administrative services provider for the insurance and managed care markets, announced today that Blue Shield of California will utilize its Go-To-Exchange(SM) platform to streamline participation in the Covered California Exchange.

Deployment of Go-To-Exchange enables Blue Shield to provide high-quality insurance services to Californians who are purchasing Qualified Health Plans (QHPs) on the state insurance exchange.

"The HPS solution enables us to implement a high quality customer-focused solution for processing Exchange enrollment and billing, while providing us the flexibility to meet the demands of an evolving Exchange population of new members.  Working with HPS also allows us to bring the most affordable service solution to our customers enrolling through the new California State Exchange," said Lou Lombardo, Vice President, Markets Performance for Blue Shield of California, which serves more than 3.3 million members across California with a full range of products including health, life, dental, vision and Medicare plans.

Go-To-Exchange provides organizations participating in state exchanges with the tools they need to meet the technical and administrative demands of multiple state exchanges. Included in the Go-To-Exchange platform are:

  • ExchangeLink(SM), which facilitates the technical connections necessary to link carriers to exchanges
  • ServiceLink(SM), which provides in-force administration, member billing, tax credit/subsidy collection, premium reconciliation and customer service

The ExchangeLink platform will be used to connect Blue Shield customers to Covered California, the state-sponsored public health exchange. Blue Shield will also leverage ServiceLink to ensure administrative functions are streamlined and high-quality customer service is provided to its members.

"We are delighted to partner with Blue Shield of California through this initiative to ensure their members receive the highest quality service as they make critical health plan decisions," said Jeff Bak, President and CEO of HPS. "The confidence that Blue Shield of California has placed in our Go-To-Exchange platform is a testament to HealthPlan's ability to position insurance carriers for the future healthcare landscape."
