Better Health Introduces Miami Children’s Better Health, a Medicaid Plan

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Better Health, LLC (“Better Health”), a provider service network, has announced an innovative Medicaid plan called Miami Children’s Better Health, in collaboration with Miami Children’s Hospital. Better Health operates a Medicaid plan in Broward County with over 32,000 members and will enter Miami Dade as Miami Children’s Better Health.

Miami Children’s Better Health leverages the experience of Miami Children’s Hospital in delivering world-class medical care with Better Health’s proficiency in care coordination, high-touch customer service and state of the art technology.

Miami Children’s Hospital and Better Health believe that they can achieve savings to the State of Florida’s Medicaid Program. Efficiencies will be realized through care coordination better supporting the needs of each patient in the least restrictive setting, while providing access to providers that have demonstrated better clinical outcomes and quality.

Dr. Barbara Cowley, Chief Medical Officer of Better Health, said, “We are honored to work with Miami Children’s Hospital in this unique venture. They are a premier hospital system with over 650 world-class physicians on staff.”

Cowley explained, “This innovative collaboration would not be possible without the leadership of Liz Dudek, Interim Secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. Her encouragement for us to think outside the box in creating new relationships between managed care companies and physician groups and hospitals was a key driver in developing this project.”

M. Narendra Kini, MD, MHA, President and Chief Executive Officer of Miami Children’s Hospital, said, “This collaboration will allow us to focus on what we do best, delivering advanced, quality, medical care. We have a long-standing relationship with the management team of Better Health and know that we can trust them to provide the supportive services so that we can devote ourselves entirely to providing care for the children we serve.”

Parents of children enrolled in the program will also be eligible to participate in the Better Health extensive network, providing the entire family quality medical care.
