Bayshore Home Health launches mobile e-charting

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Bayshore Home Health is launching a mobile electronic charting program to help reduce costs, increase efficiencies and assist nurses and unregulated care providers in delivering a higher level of service to their clients. The new tool, developed on the MedShare eMotion platform, reflects Bayshore's commitment to high quality care and to delivering care based on best-practices to Canadians wherever they live.

"By moving clinical charting to an electronic format, Bayshore Home Health's clinicians will be able to ensure positive client outcomes while providing benchmarks for financial and professional service accountability," says Holly Quinn, chief nursing officer for Bayshore Home Health. "Our goal is to improve the work environment and efficiency for our clinicians, increase the level of care provided, and enhance the quality of life of all of our clients allowing them to achieve optimal health."

Bayshore Home Health's secure mobile electronic charting program allows clinicians to compile clinical documentation at the point of care using tablet computers. It provides a secure, ongoing electronic history of client encounters and interventions that gives staff direct and immediate access to the critical information they need to make evidence-informed decisions and provide quality care, whether working on- or off-line.

"MedShare's eMotion system offered us the best solution for ease of implementation and acceptance by our 8,000 caregivers from coast to coast," says Leigh Popov, director of information systems at Bayshore Home Health. "It is a true store-and-forward tele-health platform that works well with our internal systems environment, and allows seamless integration with outside stakeholders such as health ministries, regional health authorities, long term care facilities and primary care practices. This platform will give our caregivers the ultimate flexibility for smooth integration into their workflow - both when they're connected to a network and outside of coverage range."

Client assessments, care plans, smart charting and progress notes create a complete state-of-the-art documentation solution designed to entirely eliminate paper-based processes. The result will be a significant reduction in the workload associated with transcribing written notes, increased access to client referral information and collection of client outcome clinical data for benchmarking and quality improvements to care.

Popov adds that the system is highly flexible, allowing customization based on existing workflows and the ability to change the software as the business adapts. "Medshare's eMotion service-oriented architecture is both flexible and robust. Web services will allow us to scale the solutions we build on this platform across the entire enterprise with ease."
