Baxa Webinar to Explore Challenges of Neonatal and Pediatric Medication Safety

Educational webinar addresses strategies to decrease medication errors when treating young patient population.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., April 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Baxa Corporation today announced that it will offer an educational webinar to discuss the challenges of neonatal and pediatric medication safety.  Titled "Confronting the Challenges of Neonatal and Pediatric Medication Safety," the interactive event will be led by Michelle Mandrack, RN, MSN – Director of Consulting Services at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP).

The webinar will take place on April 26, 2011 from 1-2:00 PM ET and provides one CE credit to qualified attendees.  To register for "Confronting the Challenges of Neonatal and Pediatric Medication Safety," go to www.baxa.com/webinars or call 800.567-BAXA.

Speaker Michelle Mandrack has more than 20 years of experience as an acute care nurse. ISMP is a nonprofit organization that is known and respected worldwide as the premier resource for timely, impartial, and accurate medication safety information.  Mandrack will share some of ISMP's insights to help participants:

  • Identify reasons why neonatal and pediatric patients are at high risk for medication errors;
  • Discuss common medication errors that occur in pediatric and neonatal populations; and
  • Describe strategies to decrease the risk related to neonatal and pediatric medication use.

"Unique treatment considerations for neonatal and pediatric patients make them more vulnerable to serious medication errors than adults," says Mandrack. "The entire healthcare team needs to recognize the areas of risk and work together to implement effective safeguards to prevent harm."
