Atlas Public Health to Demonstrate Immunization Testing at IHE North America Connectathon 2011

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Atlas Public Health today announced plans to participate in the upcoming Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America Connectathon at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in Chicago, IL, January 17-21, 2011.

The IHE Connectathon Conference will highlight the organizations and leaders driving the adoption of standards-based health IT solutions. Doug Fridsma, M.D., Ph.D, and Director, Office of Standards and Interoperability, ONC, will be a keynote speaker addressing current U.S. health IT policies and initiatives.

As an Organizational Member of IHE International, Atlas will be testing the Immunization Content (IC) profile at the 2011 Connectathon. The Company will use its Public Health Information Network (PHIN) suite of software, including EHR Gateway, to demonstrate how a state health department can receive immunization content from electronic systems by utilizing the standards outlined by IHE within the Patient Care Coordination Technical Framework. “The use case ATLAS will be demonstrating allows a provider’s EHR to seamlessly update the State’s immunization registry,” states Russell von Blanck, Atlas’ Vice President of Technical Operations. “Using the IHE’s technical framework,” von Blanck continues, “the Atlas EHR Gateway facilitates the connection between medical record systems and public health departments, ensuring that public health officials can easily track population immunization rates and trends.”

Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) is an initiative by healthcare professionals to improve the way healthcare systems share information. According to the IHE website, “Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.”

Atlas Public Health offers proven solutions for collecting complete and timely surveillance information from health care providers and laboratories throughout the community, and equips health department personnel with tools for disease investigation, case management, outbreak control, and trend analysis. By reducing manual entry and facilitating standards based communication between healthcare providers and public health officials, Atlas enables agencies to respond to potential threats to public health rapidly and effectively. The Company’s EHR Gateway solution offers physicians, public health departments and electronic medical record vendors a powerful tool to address the ARRA/HITECH mandate to enable public health reporting from EMRs.
