The new law fundamentally changes the way healthcare will be delivered in Massachusetts and will provide residents of the state with lower health care costs and an increase in the quality of care.
The Healthcare Cost Containment Bill is projected to save local taxpayers, government and businesses more than $200 billion over 15 years as it caps the cost rate in which healthcare increases year to year. Healthcare costs have been rising at an unsustainable rate in Massachusetts, and nationally, requiring a bold effort to reign in the costs. In 2006, Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to pass comprehensive healthcare legislation mandating coverage for its citizens. As a result, Massachusetts has the highest percentage of residents with healthcare at approximately 98.5 percent. Shortly after Massachusetts passed its groundbreaking legislation, the was accepted in Washington D.C., largely mirroring the Massachusetts law.
