First commercially available search engine to run clinical queries across IHE actors
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Apixio Inc., the leading provider of search solutions for standards based clinical information, announces its participation at the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase after successful validation of Apixio Community Search solution at the IHE North America Connectathon 2011. During the five-day event, Apixio successfully demonstrated its interoperability with more than 20 organizations, paving the way for search technology to become part of the everyday work flow of healthcare providers.
“Apixio is bringing the simplicity of online search that has become a part of everyday culture into the electronic medical records space,” said Bob Rogers, Apixio’s Chief Scientist. “Perhaps the following use case can help explain how the search technology improves care coordination: A specialist enters a clinical context such as ‘chest pain’ into the Apixio search bar and is then able to instantly retrieve, from multiple sources, relevant lab results such as CKMB and amylase, relevant diagnostic results such as EKG and chest CT scan, and progress notes and consult reports in which concepts relevant to chest pain, such as ‘GERD’ and ‘holter monitor’, are mentioned.”
Apixio passed every profile it tested at the Connectathon, focusing particularly on those related to the following IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) protocols: 1) Document Consumer: XDS.b and 2) Audit and Logging: ATNA client, CT (consistent time) client. Apixio was also able to informally test PIX/PDQ identity management services. IHE is a recognized global leader in creating healthcare industry standards related to the exchange of clinical information across organizations. Most Health Information Exchanges leverage the same IHE standards.
