ApeniMED Advances National Disaster Preparedness with US Federal National Disaster Medical System and Guam Health Informat

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ApeniMED, a leader in healthcare interoperability, will be featured alongside the Territory of Guam Health Information Exchange (HIE) at the upcoming Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas, NV on February 20-24, 2012, demonstrating Secure Messaging with the Territory of Guam HIE as part of the 2012 HIMSS Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Interoperability Showcase.

ApeniMED will demonstrate Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) Direct Project-based Secure Messaging from providers in Guam to Guam Memorial Hospital, revealing how providers can electronically exchange clinical data, such as referrals, summaries and laboratory results, to speed up results reporting and information sharing.

This demonstration will highlight how disaster preparedness can be improved in the Territory of Guam, through collaboration with the Guam HIE and National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) program of the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Operations under Health and Human Services (HHS), through patient evacuation to an off-island hospital with integrated clinical data exchange, when a natural disaster strikes.

Apprio Inc., the National Disaster Medical System integrator, will also be at the demonstration. Apprio created the Disaster Medical Information System (DMIS).

“ApeniMED is excited to demonstrate upgraded disaster response capabilities using these new federal standards” said John Fraser, CEO of ApeniMED. “We will be educating the community on how we can better protect ourselves in disasters with these cutting edge services.”

“I’m pleased the Guam HIE was selected for this showcase opportunity,” said Ed Cruz, CIO of the Territory of Guam, Bureau of Information Technology. “The ability to showcase the live Guam HIE with clinical data exchange and HIE interoperability with the National Disaster Medical System and Health and Human Services is extremely exciting.”

ApeniMED will be featured with the Guam HIE in the ONC/FHA area, HIMSS Interoperability Showcase 2012 in Hall G, booth 11000. This is ApeniMED’s fifth consecutive year in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase.
