LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Paul S. Viviano, Chairman of the Board of Directors, announced today that Anthony A. Scaduto, M.D. has been named President and CEO of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital effective immediately.

Dr. Scaduto was asked to serve in the interim appointment in October 2011, following the retirement of James V. Luck, Jr., M.D., “because he is a brilliant clinician, inspiring leader, is highly respected in the academic community, and is effective working closely with our partner, the UCLA Health System,” said Mr. Viviano.

During Dr. Scaduto’s interim appointment, he demonstrated an innate ability to motivate and to effectively guide the organization as the Chief Executive. “Dr. Scaduto joined with his Executive Leadership Team to address a number of timely and complex issues, quickly gaining both the respect and admiration of the clinical staff as well as members of the Board. In a relatively short period of time, he proved to all of us that he is the best executive to lead Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital,” Mr. Viviano said.

In addition to serving as President and CEO, Dr. Scaduto serves as Executive Vice Chair for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCLA, Division Chief for Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at UCLA, Medical Director and The Charles LeRoy Lowman Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital as well as Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital.

Prior to joining Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital in 2009, Dr. Scaduto was Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Shriners Hospitals for Children Los Angeles and Assistant Clinical Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery, at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.

In accepting the position, Dr. Scaduto stated, "I am extremely proud to work in close partnership with our Board to lead Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. This remarkable institution is an asset to our community and it is a great honor to be appointed as its President and CEO.”

Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital has existed for over 100 years, and continues to play a vital role in serving as the primary care facility for children’s orthopaedic diseases, disorders and traumatic injury in greater Los Angeles. Outstanding patient care is provided by a caring and compassionate medical team.

“Ultimately, it is all about caring for children and supporting their families during what is often a stressful and frightening experience. We provide outstanding care to every child regardless of their family’s ability to pay because it is our belief that all children deserve the opportunity to lead healthy, productive and active lives,” said Dr. Scaduto.

Dr. Scaduto received his undergraduate and medical degrees at UCLA, where he conducted his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery, receiving the UCLA Orthopaedic Surgery Best Resident Research Award. He completed his Postdoctoral Orthopaedic Research Fellowship at UCLA, and held a Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Spinal Deformity Surgery at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
