Anthelio, the leading independent provider of comprehensive healthcare information technology and services to hospitals and other healthcare providers, today announced the results of the 3rd annual community hospital survey completed with Community Hospital 100. The survey provides insights into the financial health and new initiatives of community hospitals across the country, and was released on October 21, 2013 at the 2013 Community Hospital 100 Executive Management Conference in Greensboro, Georgia.

The survey found that responding community hospitals are struggling financially and facing significant challenges due to federal or state cuts to Medicare and Medicaid:

Community hospitals surveyed identified following initiatives to improve their operational efficiencies:

“The results of this survey indicate that the continuing financial pressures on community hospitals are forcing a majority to develop plans to integrate with other organizations,” said Asif Ahmad, CEO of Anthelio. “However, the survey shows that 74 percent of responding community hospitals are only willing to pursue partnerships with other hospitals that do not relinquish ownership, and only 9 percent will consider consolidation with a hospital system compared to 41 percent last year.”

A copy of the full survey results is available on the Anthelio website at

The community hospital financial health and new initiatives survey was conducted between August and September 2013 based on the results of an email questionnaire sent to community-based hospitals and health systems with up to 500 acute beds. Responses were received from 135 community hospital executives representing 123 community-based hospitals. The survey was released to the community hospitals executives who attended the 2013 Community Hospital 100 Conference in Greensboro, Georgia.

Community Hospital 100’s mission is to help lead the future of health in our communities by providing exceptional learning and relationship building opportunities for community hospital and system executives. The centerpiece of this group is an annual leadership conference, which is complemented by additional knowledge-sharing activities throughout the year.
