American Board of Medical Quality Appoints Phytel Executive as Board Director

Dr. Richard Hodach, Phytel's Chief Medical Officer, Has Extensive Background in Automation of Care Management

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Richard Hodach, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Phytel, the leader in provider-led population health improvement, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Board of Medical Quality (ABMQ). The ABMQ recognizes and certifies professionals and programs in the rapidly growing field of medical quality management.

"We are delighted that Dr. Hodach has been selected to help guide this prestigious organization," said Steve Schelhammer, CEO of Phytel. "Dr. Hodach has a long history in integrating health IT with care management and has helped build some of the leading companies in the sector. He will be an invaluable asset to the American Board of Medical Quality as it continues to refine its assessments of medical quality professionals engaged in improving care coordination and clinical processes."

Before joining Phytel, Dr. Hodach was the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Matria Healthcare, a disease management company specializing in high-risk pregnancies. He also served as Medical Director and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Accordant, where he converted disease management programs into web-enabled disease management tools. He also co-founded MED.I.A. (Media Interactive Applications), a firm that designed and produced healthcare educational materials. Dr. Hodach, a board-certified neurologist, has a Ph.D. in pathology and electrodiagnosis, as well as a master’s degree in public health.

The goal of the American Board of Medical Quality is to promote professionally recognized and relevant credentials for physicians in the field of medical quality management. While the ABMQ is closely related to the American College of Medical Quality (ACMQ), the two organizations are separate. Whereas the ACMQ provides education in clinical quality improvement and medical quality management, the ABMQ certifies professionals in the field.

"We're pleased that Dr. Hodach has accepted our invitation to be on our board," commented Donald Fetterolf, MD, MBA, Secretary/Treasurer of the ABMQ. "His experience in the field of medical quality management and automation tools will aid the American Board of Medical Quality as we navigate the new environment of patient-centered medical homes and accountable care organizations."
