America’s Community Health Centers Convene for National Conference in Washington

Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius to Address Gathering

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The 2011 Policy and Issues Forum, hosted by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), is scheduled to kick off this week (March 23rd -27th). The 36rd annual national conference is the largest Washington gathering of federally supported Community Health Centers, which serve more than 23 million patients nationwide. The conference brings together thousands of health center leaders, opinion-makers, policy experts, clinicians and consumers to dialogue on expanding access to affordable primary health care.

The conference comes as the health reform law (the Affordable Care Act) turns one year old on Wednesday, March 23rd. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will address the conference General Session at 3:00 pm EDT.

Other speakers at the conference will include Mary Wakefield, Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration – the agency within the Department of Health and Human Services that oversees the Federal Health Centers program; Donald Berwick, MD, Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Victoria Reggie Kennedy, the wife of the late U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
