Alere Receives Full URAC Case Management & Utilization Management Accreditation

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Alere Health, one of the nation’s leading providers of integrated health and wellness solutions for health plans and employers, announced today that it has been awarded full URAC Case Management and Utilization Management Accreditation for its suite of complex, oncology, neonatal and maternity programs. URAC is a Washington, DC-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry.

Alere is one of the nation’s most experienced providers of comprehensive cancer treatment support programs and offers intensive care for individuals with complex, chronic health conditions. The company’s OB Case Management program delivers a full range of support for women with high-risk pregnancies, and its NICU Case Management program provides care management for infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units.

“URAC is recognized and respected by industry leaders nationally for its commitment to ensuring that health programs provide optimal outcomes and quality,” said Alere Health Chief Medical Officer Craig Keyes. “We are honored that our innovative programs, as well as the hard work and dedication of our clinicians, case managers, health coaches and other associates, have been acknowledged by URAC, and we are focused on continuing to meet the high standards URAC has set.”

“URAC’s accreditation of Alere’s OB and NICU Case Management programs demonstrates our commitment to our customers and the healthcare providers we support by acknowledging and adhering to national quality standards for case management services,” said Gregg Raybuck, President, Alere Women’s & Children’s Health.

To earn the accreditation, Alere had to participate in a rigorous evaluation to demonstrate compliance with URAC standards for organizational structure, policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, inter-departmental coordination, marketing and sales communications, business relationships, information management, quality management, staff qualifications, clinical staff credentialing and oversight, healthcare system coordination and consumer protection and empowerment.

“By applying for and receiving Case Management Accreditation, Alere has demonstrated a commitment to quality healthcare,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “Quality healthcare is crucial to our nation’s welfare, and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards.”

URAC specifically designed the Case Management and Utilization Management Standards for organizations that provide telephonic or on-site management services in conjunction with privately or publicly funded benefits programs.

URAC, an independent, nonprofit organization, is a leader in promoting healthcare quality through accreditation and certification programs. URAC’s standards keep pace with the rapid changes in the healthcare system, and provide a mark of distinction for healthcare organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality and accountability. Through its broad-based governance structure and an inclusive standards development process, URAC ensures that all stakeholders are represented in setting meaningful standards for the healthcare industry.
