AirStrip Technologies and Sprint Put Critical Patient Monitoring Information at the Fingertips of Medical Professionals

SAN ANTONIO & OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mobile medical software development pioneer AirStrip Technologies is collaborating with Sprint (NYSE: S) to deliver robust and cost-effective technological benefits for medical professionals.

AirStrip Technologies has developed one-of-a-kind remote patient monitoring applications that deliver real-time vital waveform and other critical patient data directly from hospital monitoring systems to mobile devices to enable healthcare providers to continually monitor vital signs from virtually wherever they are. AirStrip applications now are available on Sprint smartphones, like the HTC EVOTM 4G and soon the Samsung EpicTM 4G. The applications are HIPAA compliant and FDA cleared.

The companies are collaborating for a cost-effective, bundled offer that includes Sprint's clinical grade in-building coverage enhancement and AirStrip services for hospitals that agree to expand or extend an enterprise commitment to the Sprint network for more of their employees.

"We want every physician and patient in the United States to have immediate access to the innovative safety benefits offered by AirStrip's revolutionary technology," said Dr. Cameron Powell, President and Chief Medical Officer, AirStrip. "We also understand the financial challenges many hospitals face. This partnership enables hospitals to accelerate their adoption of AirStrip in a cost-effective manner, while also ensuring the robust in-building coverage to meet the growing data mobility demands of hospital staff and medical practitioners."

Dr. Powell stressed that any hospitals that capitalize on the Sprint/AirStrip partnership will not have to require their physicians to use any particular device or service carrier. However the blazing-fast speeds of Sprint 4G offer robust features and real-time data transmissions that are not necessarily available over a 3G network.

In the past, providing physicians with mobile access to medical information has created concerns that the data being viewed on laptops or hand-held devices could be easily copied, putting security and patient confidentiality at risk. With AirStrip, the data is not stored on the device; it remains "in the cloud." So if an HTC EVO 4G or hand-held device is lost or stolen, the patient records and data remain safe.

"We're excited to join forces with AirStrip, which provides powerful healthcare technology that improves patient safety and taps into the speed and reliability of Sprint's 4G network," said Tim Donahue, vice president of industry solutions, Sprint. "AirStrip can be quickly deployed, is easy to use and offers medical professionals the ability to access up-to-the-second medical data from virtually anywhere, anytime - and the Sprint network is a vital enabler."

Sprint is the first national wireless carrier to launch a 4G network, with download speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.* Sprint's 4G network has been serving customers since 2008 and is available today to customers in 55 markets in cities like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia and Seattle.

Dr. Powell said Sprint's 4G network will also allow AirStrip to add features to its remote patient monitoring solutions.

"With this collaboration, our groundbreaking AirStrip solutions can now offer more features that medical professionals have been asking for," Dr. Powell noted. "The speed of an enterprise-wide hospital rollout has sometimes been limited to a certain extent to factors beyond our control, including fiscal concerns, along with network speeds and reliability. This partnership opens up a world of new possibilities."

The world's first 3G/4G AndroidTM handset, exclusively from Sprint, HTC EVO 4G, built on the Android platform, includes a blazing-fast 1GHz Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM processor, the award-winning HTC SenseTM user experience, a large, vibrant 4.3 inch display, an 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera.

The Samsung Epic 4G is a Galaxy S smartphone and is part of a new breed of Samsung smartphones offering the very best in screen, speed and content quality on Samsung's industry-leading 4 inch Super AMOLED touch-screen display. Samsung Epic 4G's user interface also supports a series of advanced touch-screen gestures and provides HD-like video in the palm of your hand; accessory cable available separately.
