3 ways to promote physician-led population health management

Though physician-led population health programs, including some accountable care organizations, have encountered some significant challenges, three types of innovations in physician leadership offer the best opportunity to overcome these barriers, according to a Health Affairs blog post. First, health systems have had success with a structure called a Population Health Services Organization, a physician-led administrative body that contracts with risk-bearing entities to support population health programs. Another useful factor for promoting physician governance is a pod structure for primary care practices--or a group of physicians organized into collaborative units that manage risk and improve quality of care.
