LifeOmic acquires conversational AI startup to power its customer support

Precision medicine software company LifeOmic has acquired Bavard to offer its consumers AI-powered customer support.

Indianapolis-based LifeOmic, which develops health and wellness software using machine learning for employers, providers and other groups, will integrate Bavard’s tech as a chatbot on its website and mobile apps.

The AI solution also uses natural language processing to allow users to communicate in any language and receive responses informed by past interactions.

“The majority of people are spending more time online and the need to optimize the experience is greater than ever. We created Bavard’s conversational platform to engage with users around the clock, even after a live support team has gone home,” said Angelique Brown, Bavard co-founder and CEO, in a statement. “Together with LifeOmic, we are excited to leverage this cutting-edge technology in the health and wellness industry to help organizations deliver better user experiences at scale.”

Founded in 2016, LifeOmic offers several technologies for consumers, providers, employers, academics, government organizations and other entities, that are designed to be tailored to the client’s needs.

LifeOmic’s central product, the Precision Health Cloud, integrates disparate data sources using machine learning to “break down the silos” in healthcare.

The deal with Bavard mirrors widespread excitement around the potential of AI solutions that has accelerated since the beginning of the pandemic, resulting in increased uptake and development of these solutions across the healthcare industry.

Companies are also leveraging machine learning to develop tools that personalize the care experience for patients and providers as consumers demand customized services.

“Our customers are our number one priority, and this acquisition ensures we’re able to offer the best support possible,” said Don Brown, M.D., LifeOmic CEO and founder. “They can now engage with a platform that responds 24/7 and is powered by thousands of data points to provide personalized suggestions when they need it most.”

Most healthcare and life sciences executives want their organizations to more aggressively adopt AI technology, according to a March survey from KPMG.

More technologies are incorporating natural language processing, too, which can be used to automate administrative workflows and other tasks.
