MA hospitals post better profit margins for 2013

Massachusetts' hospitals posted slightly better financial figures for fiscal 2013, according to a new report from the state's Center for Health Information and Analysis. Altogether, 53 of 64 hospitals posted a profit, with margins climbing to 4.1 percent last fiscal year compared to 3.8 percent in fiscal 2012. Forty-eight facilities were profitable on their operations alone, while five were in the black due to their investments. However, disproportionate share hospitals' margins dropped to 3.6 percent from 5.6 percent in fiscal 2012. Report (.pdf)
