A new white paper by Huron Healthcare has concluded that hospitals can save time--and by extension, money--by improving their workflow processes. "Initially focusing on areas which have low quality and satisfaction metrics, high overtime, high employee turnover and staffing above comparative and historical performance can provide the greatest benefit in the short-term," the paper said. Examples include simplifying patient food menus in order to reduce ordering errors; training nurses to perform simple breathing tests on patients, therefore freeing up more time for respiratory therapists, and automating some manual record recording processes.
