Catholic systems snapping up hospitals in western Washington state

Deals among Catholic hospital operators in western Washington have been swallowing up some of the region's largest facilities, raising concerns that religious-oriented restrictions on delivering certain healthcare services could wind up in conflict with the needs of residents, who may require abortion services or emergency contraception in the case of sexual assault. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, as many as half of the beds in western Washington may now be under Catholic control.
