In response to requests from the public for additional time, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has extended the comment period regarding the information it seeks on the governing mechanism for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN). The new deadline is June 29, 2012; the original deadline was set for June 14. The request for information, published in the Federal Register May 15, ultimately will help ONC develop a proposed rule to establish the governance mechanism for the NwHIN, which will facilitate electronic health information exchange throughout the country.
