Walter Reed Medical Center will join with the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command to form an integrated military health system in the D.C. area. UNC and IBM launch EMR network

The University of North Carolina Health Care System and IBM announced the launch of a new Web-based electronic health system. Dubbed WebClinical Information Systems (WebCIS), the network will allow more than 7,000 physicians participating affiliated with UNC Health to access patient medical records, test results and file prescriptions electronically. Louisiana Attorney General Charles Foti said his office has launched an investigation into how hospital and nursing homes handled the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. HIT: KC employers plan community health record

In Kansas City, Cerner is playing a large role in an unusual employer-led initiative which will set up an electronic community health record.
