On Friday, a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania by UPMC contended that Pittsburgh violated its rights to equal protection and due process, and to engage in interstate and international commerce. "After the city's legal team ignored our request to have this issue settled through the appropriate process for tax disputes, we had no choice but to take this legal action to protect the rights of UPMC and its nearly 60,000 employees," medical center spokesman Paul Wood said in an email to Reuters.
