Study: Home care agencies could improve responsiveness

Most patients are fairly satisfied with their home care agency's service, but agencies could improve their satisfaction if their home office did a better job of responding to patient requests and complaints, according to a new study by Press Ganey.

The research firm surveyed 282,000 patients getting care from home health and medical equipment providers across the U.S. They found that while Medicare patients are relatively satisfied, self-pay patients are less so, and that satisfaction decreases substantially after the first 10 months of receiving care. By the same token, patient satisfaction dropped significantly after patients had used equipment for more than 21 weeks.
