Streamlined ER treatment leads to nationwide drop in coronary heart disease deaths

The New York Times takes an in-depth look at the changes in U.S. emergency rooms that have led to a 38 percent decline in the death rate from coronary heart disease from 2003 to 2013.The streamlined approach to emergency treatment occurs in local hospitals as well as big name institutions, according to the publication. "It may not be long before cardiovascular disease is no longer the leading cause of death" in the United States, Michael Lauer, M.D., director of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, told the NYT.  Article
