University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center received a new Medicare provider agreement, so it can now start seeking reimbursement for treating Medicare patients, The Baltimore Sun reported. The hospital lost about $400,000 for every day it treated Medicare patients without certification. "We were committed to providing the community uninterrupted health care during this transition and have never wavered in that commitment," the hospital said in a statement, according to the Sun. St. Joseph, when owned by Catholic Health Initiatives, previously paid the federal government $22 million to settle allegations of a kickback scheme involving implanting stents. Article
