A new study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation highlights one of the biggest challenges in retaining nurses at hospitals: While there are many strategies that work, no one strategy seems to work at every institution, the group found. Programs pairing more-experienced mentors with younger RNs, continuing education, giving more of a leadership role and flexible schedules all seemed to have an impact, but their impact differed widely from one institution to another, RWJF researchers concluded.
