New findings stir diabetes treatment debate
Recently, a major federal study revealed startling results--that in some diabetic patients, pushing hard to lower blood sugar levels actually increased the patients' risk of death. While these findings aren't likely to stand diabetes treatment on its head--as it still seems clear that blood sugar management is part of good diabetes care--it may shift clinicians' emphasis a bit, and will definitely spark debate on proper diabetes care, observers say.
