SPOTLIGHT: IOM report critical on device safety

An Institute of Medicine panel released a report on Monday which concludes tighter regulation of medical devices is probably necessary. The IOM panel, which focused specifically on devices used to treat children, said that the FDA needs to broaden oversight of device makers and improve the number and reporting of post-marketing studies.
