Workers comp claimants and the physicians who examine them for insurance providers are at odds. Claimants believe that doctors can't be impartial and fairly diagnose their injuries because they are on insurance company payrolls. The New York Times reports that New York uses independent medical examiners more than many states, and that the practice can undermine the system.
