SPOTLIGHT: Fentanyl deaths top 1,000 over two years
A new government report has concluded that more than 1,000 people died over a two year period from an illegal version of fentanyl, an extremely powerful, euphoria-inducing painkiller. The deaths are mostly attributable to fentanyl production by an illegal site in Mexico, and have tailed off since mid-2007, researchers said. However, some deaths from illegal fentanyl still occur, sometimes when the drug is mixed with cocaine or heroin by street dealers, they noted. Article
