Doctor leaves prison job over state executions
Dr. Marc Stern, chief medical officer of the prison system in Washington state, had a dilemma. Stern's position was that if he or anyone he supervised took part in an execution, it would violate the ethical standards of the medical profession. But while he'd made several attempts to see to it that neither he nor his staff of 700 health professionals weren't involved with executions, it was proving difficult to accomplish. When it appeared, however, his pharmacist team-members would end up having to dispense lethal drugs to a condemned prisoner, Dr. Stern resigned. Article
