San Francisco sues Nevada hospital for patient dumping

The city of San Francisco has filed suit against the state of Nevada and its primary psychiatric hospital for issuing indigent mentally ill patients bus tickets out of town and sending them to California cities without making arrangements for their care, The Sacramento Bee reports. The class action suit against Nevada, Rawson-Neil Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas and state mental health administrators seeks reimbursement for the care of the patients dumped onto California to save money. The article states San Francisco also is asking for a permanent injunction to prevent Nevada from making future attempts to send psychiatric patients to California unless they are residents of the destination city or county, family members have agreed to take care of them, or administrators have made arrangements to transfer the patient to a medical facility in the area.
