Pennsylvania hospitals sue feds over DSH payments

Two Pennsylvania hospitals filed suit against the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, claiming the agency's disproportionate share hospital (DSH) program shorted them by more than $1.8 million since 1995. Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township and St. Vincent Health Center in Erie sued HHS in federal court last Friday, "alleging the agency arbitrarily excluded a group of low-income Pennsylvania patients from the formula it uses to distribute the subsidy, costing the hospitals federal dollars," The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. Monongahela Valley claimed the agency's decision has kept the hospital from updating facilities. Article
