Penn Medicine uses data analytics to cut sepsis mortality

A data analytics program at Penn Medicine helped the Philadelphia-based hospital lower sepsis mortality rates, according to Healthcare IT News. "One of the reasons we chose sepsis was, in terms of altering the care pathway, there is strong evidence to suggest that if you intervene early and appropriately, you can actually decrease mortality rate," said Christine VanZandbergen, associate chief information officer at Penn Medicine.

Using an algorithm for its early warning system, Penn Medicine was able to lower sepsis mortality rates by 4 percent, according to the article.
