NY hospital avoids closure with new delivery model
While many hospitals targeted by the New York State Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century have been forced to close, one 50-bed hospital seems to have brokered a deal which will allow it to stay in business. Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry, which was slated to be closed by the Commission, struck an agreement with state officials to close temporarily, then re-open under the sponsorship of 504-bed St. John's Riverside Hospital (Yonkers). St. John's will drive a new hybrid model which will include an emergency department and observation beds focused on primary care, cancer care and chronic disease management. The new model is designed to reduce hospitalizations and better integrate primary care into the ED.
