A bill in the New Jersey state legislature would make sure that hospitals and other healthcare facilities get power back as soon as possible during emergencies like Hurricane Sandy, according to NJ Spotlight. More than 250 such facilities lost power in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy, 38 of them acute-care hospitals. One-third of nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the Garden State lost power for an average of five days. Proponents of the bill favor building smaller, more energy-efficient power plants that could operate even if the rest of the grid goes out, but legislators and Gov.
