More than one-third of healthcare workers lack flu vaccination

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) isn't close to reaching its goal to vaccinate 90 percent of all U.S. healthcare workers by 2020. Only 63.5 percent of healthcare workers were vaccinated during the 2010-11 flu season, slightly higher than the previous year at 62 percent, reports the Wall Street Journal. Eighty-four percent of physicians were vaccinated against influenza and 70 percent of nurses received the vaccination. Not surprisingly, the rates climbed closer to 100% when workplace policies required vaccinations, according to UPI.
