MDs in GA missing Medicaid reimbursements

Doctors in Georgia are becoming frustrated as the Georgia Department of Community Health moves over 1 million Medicaid recipients to HMOs. Some doctors complain that they haven't received their Medicaid reimbursement for 10 weeks, or have received only partial pay. Other glitches have arisen that have made the switch over difficult for both the doctors and the patients. Representatives from the HMOs say they're working with physicians to solve the problems. Switching Medicaid beneficiaries to HMOs is supposed to save some of the state's $2.3 billion annual Medicaid budget and the HMO reps say their programs will give patients more choice and better access to primary care.
